Personal Training for NDIS Participants
I am sure you will all agree that physical activity is important for everyone, no matter their limitations.
Unfortunately for many people with a disability, basic exercise can be very difficult, overwhelming, or just downright impossible especially in a public, commercial Gym.
Training with us at Scrutiny can be the perfect solution. With a decade of experience working with clients with diverse skills and having a network of some of the most skilled experienced experts we can say with a 100% confidence we can help.
We’re all about making exercise convenient, fun and non-intimidating. Our wheelchair accessible 100% privately Owned Centre, means it’s just the Trainer and their client in one-on-one training session. We select times that work best for the client to ensure they get the most from their session. We have an open floor plan with loads of space and equipment to help you in every way possible.

Why Personal Training?
Scrutiny itself started as we experienced a culture of not wanting have people train regularly and a lack of service and inclusiveness for people with disabilities. The vast majority of the fitness industry isn’t confident, comfortable or capable to meet the unique needs of people with disabilities.
Regardless of the disability – we believe, as long as you have a body you can exercise in some way. What that exercise looks like and how it’s performed needs to be tailored to the disability and the individual
.
There’s no doubt that regular exercise improves every body’s fitness and health. What’s important to know though is that the benefits aren’t just physical, they are holistic. Meaning, that regular exercise is beneficial for our:
-
Mental health
-
Cognitive functioning
-
Physical wellbeing
-
Prevention or delay of some chronic diseases
-
Improved immune system and
-
Sleep
In short, regular exercise is the gift that can have a positive impact on every aspect of your life. One of the regular comments we get is “I thought I would be sore and tired but I actually feel better”.
To date, the only negative consequences of exercise on disability that has been seen is when the exercise wasn’t appropriate to the client – which is why picking the right personal trainer/coach and program is so very important and why we have the best in the business.

What Makes an Inclusive Personal Trainer?
Personal trainers/coaches are a lot like a great pair of socks, you have to find the right fit. So, it’s important to make sure you make the right choice when choosing a personal trainer/coach for the best results, appropriate adaptability, as well as ensuring you enjoy the sessions.

So, what makes a good personal trainer for someone with a disability?
Professionalism

Understanding
Attitude AKA ’Adaptitude’
Any ‘ok’ Personal Trainer or Coach should have the ability to adapt a plan to suit the client.
Working with diverse clients takes this to an entirely different level and only exceptional Personal Trainers or Coaches fully grasp how to do this well. All of our coaches engage in weekly Development sessions and regular upskilling to ensure we are the best in the business.

Gym Training & Workouts

Firstly, we don’t believe in ‘Specific disability gyms or NDIS gyms, we simply believe in accessible gyms for everybody!
What makes gym great for training, they’re built for it! Gyms can offer an opportunity to meet other people. They have a wide range of equipment and opportunities to learn and develop. Our dream is that one day ALL gyms are accessible, have personal trainers that are skilled and experienced with diverse skill clients and aware of adaptable fitness, and most importantly are inclusive.
Outdoor Training
There are immense benefits of training outside including the chance for some sun, some fresh air and a new space. If you live near a nice park area It might be worthwhile undertaking your session there, a bonus, they can sometimes provide marked tracks and free to use gym equipment. Training outside can be a great way to mix up your program and progress in your goals.
