Brayden Duffy

Coach

My name is Brayden, I am a coach here at Scrutiny Strength and Conditioning. I started working here at Scrutiny in 2021 and previously had been training here since 2017…

Fast forward to the end of 2022 I began coaching here. I started off with a range of clientele from NDIS to powerlifters and general population. Now dipping my toe into rehab and corrective training.

I decided I wanted to be a coach after participating in work experience right here at Scrutiny. I was lucky enough to sit in on a session with Shaun and one of his NDIS clients who was in a wheelchair and by the end of the session could walk with assistance! After this I was bombarded with information about the art of coaching. It’s safe to say I was hooked!

I am a powerlifter myself and currently own 2 national records with APL in the 75kg tested category. Prior to powerlifting have also had the opportunity to represent Queensland several times in Rugby League.

I am extremely passionate about all things within the fitness industry and love seeing people reach their full potential in everything they choose to do.

A piece of advice I would like to pass on would be to finish everything with the word “Yet”. This word is a mindset game changer. It makes yourself and the person listening believe that you’re not there yet, but with time, you will be!

Lachlan Macdonald

Trainee Coach

Hi, I’m Lachlan Macdonald, part of the Scrutiny Strength and Conditioning coaching team. I’ve lived in Rockhampton my whole life and joined Scrutiny in 2021.

I attended The Rockhampton Grammar School, where I completed my Cert 3 in fitness during grades 11 and 12. After graduating, I pursued further knowledge in the fitness industry and was fortunate to complete my Cert 4 in fitness at Scrutiny.

Being active has always been a big part of my life. From ages 9 to 13, I played Rugby League, Athletics, and Oz Tag, and competed in Surf Life Saving events. At 15, I discovered AFL, which quickly became my favorite sport. My proudest achievements include receiving ‘AFL Player of the Year’ at Rockhampton Grammar in 2021 and 2022, representing Rockhampton in athletics, and competing for the North/Capricornia region in Surf Life Saving.

My passion for fitness sparked in high school while coaching classmates during my Cert 3. Helping others improve their form and performance inspired me to pursue a career in this field.

What I love most about Scrutiny is the attention to detail in coaching. My first session with Marty in 2021, where he guided me through an AFL program, highlighted the care and effort the team puts into every member’s progress.

A key piece of advice: “Push hardest when you want to quit the most—it helps build mental strength.”

Emmerson

Coach Trainee

I am a trainee coach and part of the staff here at Scrutiny Strength and Conditioning. I was born and raised in Rockhampton and have been training at Scrutiny since 2022.

I have always been active from a young age starting both athletics and dancing at the age of 3 and am still competing in both. My love for athletics started to grow after I made my first club states at Little Athletics Qld (LAQ) at the age of 8 and has been my passion ever since. I have competed in local and state competitions every year since for both school and club, as well as being selected for the LAQ New Zealand Development Camp in both 2022 and 2023. I was also awarded the State Leadership Award in 2023. I was club captain in 2023 at my local athletics club and am now on the club committee after graduating from Little Athletics in 2023. I am currently a coach for LAQ and hope to further my coaching accreditations in the future.

During school my favourite subject was always sport, which lead me to complete my Cert 3 in fitness across grade 10 & 11. This is where I found a love for coaching and helping people, and decided that it was a path I wanted to take in the future. This has led me to take up the opportunity to study my Cert 4 in fitness here at Scrutiny. I am excited to work at Scrutiny as I love the supportive environment and friendliness that everyone has.

Abby Buntain

Junior Admin

I am one of the crew members apart of the Scrutiny Strength and Conditioning team. My passion for all things sports and fitness, specifically Oz tag has always played an important role in my life. I have lived in Rockhampton all my life and have been very active since I was young. I started playing soccer when I was ten, then transitioned into rugby league and continued playing for the last three years and I now play Oz tag full time in both the ladies and mixed competitions.

I am currently attending high school at NRSHS, while still in school I am completing a Certificate III in school-based education support. Once I complete high school, I plan on getting my primary and early childhood education degree to then become a primary school teacher.

I have always been passionate about sport and played in many different teams throughout the years, Previously I have shown my sporting ability by representing the Rockhampton Oz tag association at the Junior state cup in 2023. I have also represented the Tigers JRL organization for many years contributing to my teams’ successes.

One of the things I am most excited about working at scrutiny is the super welcoming, happy environment and being surrounded by both amazing people and experiences. I love seeing people achieve their goals and aspirations and am looking forward to starting my journey here at Scrutiny strength and conditioning.

One quote I live by:

“You can either stay in bed and keep dreaming or get up and chase them”. I think this is super important because if you don’t chase your dreams, they will never be your reality.
